SAMC names Arango director of Health Information Management

Southeast Alabama Medical Center (SAMC) is pleased to announce Janice Arango, RHIA, CCS, has been named director of Health Information Management.

Janice has been at SAMC for more than 18 years. She has most recently served the last four years as coding supervisor. In that role, she oversaw all inpatient and outpatient health records according to coding guidelines and regulations. Prior to being named coding supervisor, Janice spent more than 14 years as a code analyst. Before coming to SAMC, she spent eight years as a health information director at Stones River Hospital in Woodbury, Tennessee and coding consultant in Brentwood, Tennessee. She began her career at North Shore Medical Center in her hometown of Miami, Florida and also worked at Baptist Hospital of Miami.

Janice earned her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Troy University Dothan in 2002. She is a certified coding specialist by the American Health Information Management (AHIMA). She is also a registered health information administrator and approved ICD-10 trainer through AHIMA. She is a past officer of the local chapter of AHIMA.

In her free time she enjoys reading, watching football, attending theatre productions, spending time with friends, traveling to visit family, the beach and the mountains. She also enjoys spending time with her three cats, and supports Felines under Rescue and the Wiregrass Humane Society.
