Jonathan E. McNeal, DO

 

Dothan native Jonathan E. McNeal, DO, neurosurgeon, joined Southeast Health NeuroSpine Center in August 2013.

Dr. McNeal specializes in conditions of the brain and spine including brain tumors and tumors of the spinal cord, as well as head trauma, spine fractures, minimally invasive spine techniques, peripheral nerve disorders, spinal cord stimulation, stereotactic radiosurgery, degenerative conditions of the spine, and herniated cervical/lumbar disks.

Dr. McNeal was born and raised in Dothan and is a graduate of Dothan High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minors in Physics/Biology from Troy University and a Masters of Health Science from the University of South Alabama. Dr. McNeal received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

During medical school, he served as class president and graduated with honors to include Distinguished Student Scholar in Surgery and was inducted into the Sigma Sigma Phi medical honor society.  In addition, he had the honor of being named a Turner Scholar with the Houston County Medical Society . After an internship in general surgery, Dr. McNeal completed his neurosurgical residency at the Virginia Tech/Carilion Clinic, in Roanoke, Viriginia where he served as Chief Resident.

Nationally, Dr. McNeal is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, American College of Osteopathic Neurosurgeons, North American Spine Society and locally Landmark Park, Dothan Area Botanical Gardens, Wiregrass Museum of Art and Southeast Health Foundation Society of 1957.

Dr. McNeal was a part of the 1991 student exchange/sister city delegation between Dothan and Sakado, Japan; was a member and featured trumpet soloist in Dothan High’s “Greatest Band in Tigerland”; and played the role of Troy University’s mascot “T-roy” from 1993-1996.
