Infusion Therapy

The Infusion Therapy department of Southeast Health offers a comprehensive outpatient infusion therapy program to the residents of Dothan, Alabama and the surrounding areas. The department is located on the 2nd floor of the Women’s Center and offers an expansive view of the external surroundings. The open concept space was designed with patient comfort in mind. It features with 12 comfortable recliners so patients can relax and two specialized treatment rooms. Privacy can be provided in the open area by drawing the curtains to a close.

During treatment patients may interact with clinical and non-clinical healthcare professionals, which include Registered Nurses and Patient Care Techs, among others. The Infusion Therapy department is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 4:30pm. There is a clinician on call on Saturday and Sunday during the hours of 6:00am until 10:00am. The department

Outpatients access the services of Infusion Therapy through physician referral. After the referral, the clinical staff works closely with the patient and/or caregiver to establish treatment dates and times that meet treatment orders, as well as the needs of the patient allowing for work-life balance.

Infusion services offer an array of Outpatient IV services that provides treatment of complex disorders and/or chronic diseases for autoimmune disorders, infectious, neurological, nephrology and gastrointestinal disease. Infusions, injections, and central line maintenance are administered by Registered Nurses as prescribed by the physician.

Outpatient infusion therapy services include:

  • Administration of medications (e.g., Remicade, Interferon, Solumedrol)
  • Antibiotic Therapy
  • Injectable Treatments (e.g., Lovenox, Avenox)
  • Blood and blood product transfusions
  • Hydration Therapy
  • Inserting and removing IV access devices
  • Programming ambulatory IV infusion pumps
  • Central line Maintenance (e.g., PICC, vascular access ports, Hickman Catheters)
  • Care and education related to any of the above
  • Blood draws from all types of lines.

Supplemental services support the clinical care provided during each visit and meet the needs of each individual patient. To ensure an optimal care experience, our team also:

  • Provides assessments and evaluations
  • Educates patients and families and provides written educational materials
  • Collaborates and provides updates to the referring physician
