Cancer Rehabilitation Program

Southeast Health’s Cancer Rehabilitation Program meets the challenges facing modern cancer fighters and survivors by coordinating physical medicine and rehabilitation with acute oncologic care. Our rehabilitation team will work closely with your oncology team to ensure the continuity of your care. This innovative approach delivers rehabilitation during and after cancer treatment – on either an inpatient or outpatient basis, depending on your needs. For many cancer survivors, including those undergoing treatment, life-saving interventions may take a toll on their bodies. So while the fight against cancer is being won, patients may experience fatigue, pain, joint stiffness, weakness, emotional strain and limited mobility. Other problems may include swallowing difficulty, poor nutrition, skin breakdown, bowel and bladder dysfunction, and lymphedema — a swelling condition. The rehabilitation team at Southeast Health’s Rehab Services will develop an individualized program to help you achieve your personal goals. Our well-equipped facility offers a variety of services for effective and safe physical rehabilitation.

Your cancer experience depends on many factors, including type of tumor; organs affected; and treatment methods, such as chemotherapy, surgery or radiation; and your individual capabilities and support systems. Our rehabilitation team will develop an individualized program with you to address your functional limitations and concerns, and achieve your personal goals. Our services include:

  • Strength training – strengthens muscles, bones and joints.
  • Conditioning – improves cardiovascular stamina.
  • Manual therapy – improves range of motion and decreases pain from surgery or radiation treatment.
  • Lymphedema management – treats swelling through massage and compression.
  • Access – to multiple resources and education based on individual needs.
  • Rebuilder Therapy – helps reduce burning and tingling in feet and hands and stimulates peripheral nerve repair.
  • PAWSitive Therapy Program – visits from friendly trained therapy dogs.
