Southeast Health and Dothan City Schools Renew Academy of Health Sciences and Biomedical Science Partnership

Southeast Health and Dothan City Schools have announced the renewal of their partnership supporting the Academy of Health Sciences and Biomedical Science at Dothan Tech, continuing a shared commitment to preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals in the Wiregrass.

The new agreement extends the partnership for three additional years and includes a $75,000 investment from Southeast Health, with $25,000 committed annually to support the program.

Since the program’s inception in 2019, Southeast Health has invested more than $205,000, in addition to significant in-kind services and donations, to enhance learning opportunities and provide students with real-world healthcare experiences.

The renewal builds on the success of the initial partnership, which has provided students with valuable hands-on learning experiences and exposure to authentic clinical environments. Through this collaboration, Southeast Health has helped equip the program with resources such as simulated patient care spaces and industry-relevant equipment, ensuring students receive training that reflects real-world healthcare settings.

“We are proud to continue our investment in the education of future healthcare workers,” said Layton Anderson, vice president of Human Resources at Southeast Health. “This partnership has proven to be beneficial for both organizations and, more importantly, for our community. By working together, we can help ensure a strong pipeline of skilled healthcare professionals who are prepared to serve the needs of the Wiregrass.”

As the region’s largest employer, Southeast Health views the partnership as a strategic investment in the community’s workforce and the continued availability of high-quality healthcare. The collaboration aligns education with workforce needs, helping students gain early exposure to healthcare careers and equipping them with the skills necessary to pursue those paths.

Dothan City Schools leaders expressed appreciation for the continued commitment and support.

“We are grateful for Southeast Health’s ongoing partnership with our Biomedical and Health Science programs,” said Ryan Richards, Career Tech director for Dothan City Schools. “Their support provides opportunities for our students to gain meaningful, hands-on experience while preparing for future careers in healthcare.”

The Academy of Health Sciences and Biomedical Science at Dothan Tech offers students the opportunity to explore healthcare pathways through classroom instruction, practical application, and engagement with healthcare professionals. This partnership ensures those opportunities continue to grow, benefiting both students and the broader community.

“We are grateful for the continued support from Southeast Health,” said Dothan City Schools Superintendent Garrick Askew, EdD. “When local businesses invest in our students, they are investing in the future of our community.”

By renewing this partnership, Southeast Health and Dothan City Schools reaffirm their shared vision of strengthening the regional workforce, expanding educational opportunities, and improving long-term health outcomes.
