Southeast Health Announces New Appointments to the Houston County Health Care Authority

Southeast Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Paula Carothers, RN, MSN, and Kathy Meadows, MEd, to the Houston County Health Care Authority (HCHCA). The HCHCA is a 13-member volunteer board that serves as the governing body for Southeast Health.

John McDaniel and Steve Hicks have rotated off the board. McDaniel served on the HCHCA for 24 years, most recently as chairman. During his tenure, Southeast Health experienced significant growth. Notably, the Southeast Health Foundation was developed, the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine was established, and the hospital made substantial investments in expanding services and advancing medical education programs. Hicks completed his first term on the board.

Carothers has spent the last 24 years educating and guiding the next generation of healthcare professionals as a health occupation instructor with Houston County Schools. Prior to becoming an educator, she gained invaluable direct patient care experience as a registered nurse at Southeast Health.

“Throughout my career, I have also worked as a liaison within the healthcare community, focusing on enhancing and promoting student pathways into future health occupations,” Carothers said. “I am actively involved with the business and industry committee, where I collaborate to grow and improve the healthcare landscape in our area.”

Carothers is an active member of Dothan’s First United Methodist Church.

Meadows currently serves as financial administrator, grant writer and care director at Watermark Church in Ashford. She has more than 20 combined years of financial administration experience at Watermark and with the Houston County Schools. Additionally, she has 20 years of experience teaching in the Houston County School system and Wallace Community College in Dothan. Meadows also has more than 30 years of experience assisting her husband, Richard, managing and marketing Meadows Creek Farm.

Meadows completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Science and a minor in Agriculture Economics at Auburn University. She completed a Bachelor in Family and Consumer Sciences from Texas A&M University in Kingsville, Texas. She earned her Master of Education from Troy University in Dothan.

“I have proudly served in our church in various capacities for 31 years, as well as our community through the 4H program, Houston County Cattlewomen’s and Houston County Cattlemen’s associations,” Meadows said.

The Meadows are past Houston County Farm Family of the Year recipients and the George Washington Carver Museum Farm Family of the Year. She has also been recognized as a Gold Star Teacher at Wallace Community College.
