Dr. Heersink named medical director of the Graduate Medical Education Internal Medicine Ambulatory Clinic

Southeast Health is pleased to welcome Juanita Heersink, MD, as medical director of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Internal Medicine Ambulatory Clinic. The GME ambulatory clinic is part of the internal residency program at Southeast Health.

Dr. Heersink received a bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She earned her medical degree from the UAB School of Medicine. She completed an internal medicine residency at UAB. She also completed a Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon.

The three-year accredited internal medicine residency program is administered through Southeast Health’s GME department. The inaugural 13 member residency class began in July. There will be a total of 39 in the residency program at any given time after 2020. The residency physicians will practice in the ambulatory clinic.
