McKnight named executive director of Patient Financial Services

Southeast Alabama Medical Center (SAMC) is pleased to announce Melanie McKnight has been named executive director of Patient Financial Services, which includes access, coding, accounts receivables management and revenue integrity.

Melanie, who will celebrate 40 years of service at SAMC in August, most recently served as director of Patient Financial Services. Since joining the SAMC team, Melanie has continued to grow professionally in the organization. She began her career in Registration at SAMC in 1978. In addition, she has also served as assistant director of Environmental Services, as well as director and division director of Registration.

Melanie attended Wallace Community College in Dothan and Troy University in Dothan. She is a Certified Professional Coder, which is the most recognized medical coding certification in the healthcare industry. She is also a Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM).The CHAM program promotes the highest standards of patient access services.

Melanie and her husband, Vernon, have three children, Leah McKnight-Haas, DO, Southern Clinic, Clayton, CRNA at SAMC, Kyle, SAMC volunteer and four grandchildren. She has dedicated her life to working, raising her family and enjoying each day. When not working, she enjoys reading, traveling and most of all being with her grandsons.
