Michael T. Flanagan, MD

 

Dr. Flanagan is an anesthesiologist and pain management physician specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of acute, chronic pain syndromes.

Formerly of Greensboro, North Carolina, Dr. Flanagan is an honor graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He received his doctorate of medicine from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine and completed a transitional internship and at North Carolina Baptist Hospital of Wake Forest University. His post-doctoral training in clinical anesthesiology was also undertaken at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. During this time he was named a Glaxo-Wellcome Resident Scholar. Following completion of his anesthesiology residency, Dr. Flanagan pursued a fellowship in pain management at North Carolina Baptist Hospital. During his subspecialty training in acute and chronic pain management, he served as chief pain fellow and was selected as a Wyeth-Ayerst Pain Fellow Scholar.

Certified as a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and by the American Board of Anesthesiology with sub-specialty certification in pain management, Dr. Flanagan is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, the Alabama State Society of Anesthesia, the American Medical Association, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Houston County Medical Society. Licensed by the states of Alabama and North Carolina, he is a published author and the recipient of numerous awards and honors.

Dr. Flanagan served as the 2013-2014 President elect for the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. He was MASA’s first president from Dothan.

Dr. Flanagan has been a long-standing voice in Alabama’s medical leadership by serving on the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners, an administrative and regulatory agency of the State of Alabama, and the Medical Licensure Commission of Alabama, a state agency which has the exclusive power and authority to issue, revoke and reinstate all licenses to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of Alabama.

Dr. Flanagan and his wife, Melissa, live in Dothan. His personal interests include swimming, sailing and skiing. He and his family are members of the St. Columba Catholic Church.
