Nestled in the southeast corner of Alabama in Houston County, Dothan is about 20 miles from Georgia and Florida. Dothan has a population of about 70,000. Houston County has a population of approximately 100,000 with more than 460,000 living within a 50 mile radius of Dothan.

Dothan is a progressive city that has embraced the new South while maintaining the southern charm and values of the past. Known as the Circle City, Dothan is the hub of the Wiregrass. Dothan is about a two hour drive from Montgomery, the state’s capital, and about three hours from Birmingham or Atlanta.

Dothan is about an hour and a half from the sugar white sand beaches and the warm waters of the Florida Gulf Coast. The community offers a mild winter climate, affordable housing, low property taxes and a wide variety of opportunities for its residents, including education, shopping and cultural entertainment.

Known as “The Peanut Capital of the World”, Dothan offers its residents a Southern experience steeped in history and agriculture. Colorfully and boldly painted on buildings throughout Dothan’s downtown area, 20 murals depict the history of the area. Dothan is also home each November to the National Peanut Festival. Dothan has recreational opportunities for all ages and the tropical climate provides a perfect place to play year round. Hunting, fishing, bird watching or just the general enjoyment of the natural world can also be discovered in the region. Nearby lakes, rivers, public or private gardens, state and national parks, the Gulf of Mexico and other natural open areas will take your breath away with their beauty.

Highland Oaks, a Robert Trent Jones Trail golf course, is among the top in the nation according to Golf Digest. Nature-lovers are drawn to the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens where a paved nature trail meanders along a peaceful pond and through beautiful gardens. Landmark Park, the Agricultural Museum of Alabama, preserves and celebrates the area’s natural and cultural heritage with several special events throughout the year.

Healthcare is the largest industry with retail and education close behind, with a growing manufacturing sector. Dothan receives hundreds of thousands of visitors every year from the northern United States passing through the city on their way to visit the Florida beaches. Tourism is a staple of the local economy.  The crime rate is far below the national average, based on FBI statistics, and has a cost of living index well below the national average.
