SAMC’s Diabetes Treatment Center Surveyed

SAMC’s Diabetes Treatment Center (DTC) was randomly selected for an onsite audit by the American Diabetes Association in May. This audit was required in order to retain recognition for SAMC’s Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) program. Diabetes educators are now more accountable for their approaches to patient care and their comprehensive education programs, which are a crucial part of a patient’s success in living well with diabetes.

During the audit, surveyors were present to ensure that DTC meets national standards, which include the educational process, content and outcome measurement for helping people with diabetes. Ten standards serve as the framework of the education program, and the DTC team met them all. Surveyors were very complementary of our diabetes program and DTC team.
