
Southeast Health names Walter C. Young, MD, interim Chief Medical Officer
Southeast Health is pleased to announce that Walter C. Young, MD, has joined the executive team as interim Chief Medical Officer. A longtime member of the Dothan medical community, Dr. Young practiced obstetrics and gynecology for nearly 40 years before retiring from clinical practice in 2023.
Dr. Young is deeply rooted in the Wiregrass community and has held numerous leadership positions at Southeast Health. He served as president of the Houston County Medical Society and as president of the Southeast Health Medical Staff. In addition, he was a member of the Houston County Health Care Authority for nearly two decades (2005–2024), helping guide strategic decisions that strengthened access, quality, and community health.
As interim Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Young will provide executive leadership over clinical quality, patient safety, and medical staff engagement across the health system.
Dr. Young earned his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. He completed his internship at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Virginia, followed by an obstetrics and gynecology residency at the National Naval Medical Center (Bethesda Naval Hospital). He also served for 12 years
in the U.S. Navy, including seven years at Naval Hospital Pensacola.
