Sylvia Powell marks 50 years of service

Sylvia Powell is a wonderful person who is tenacious when it comes to her supply chain role and taking care of our patients.

Sylvia becomes the second employee to reach the 50 year milestone at the medical center. She is also the second person in Supply Chain Management to complete five decades of employment at the medical center.

Sylvia can be described as compassionately demanding and she doesn’t expect any more from anyone else than she does from herself. One of her co-workers recalls when she interviewed for her current position in the department. She had a peer interview with all the buyers and Sylvia sat beside her and made her feel comfortable during the interview process calming her nerves.

Kurt Cummings recalls when Sylvia took over Wound VACs. She called him and said, “Are you in charge of wound VACs? This is not right! We have to fix this, where are you?” When he told her that he was in the office, she said, “Don’t move I am on my way.” She was in his office within just a few minutes and wound VACs have been “right” ever since (except an occasional slip on Kurt’s part which by the way does not get by Sylvia). “I do appreciate all she does to make my job easier,” Kurt said.

Dana Pritchard remembers when she was in process of taking over Airgas from Sylvia. Dana said the Nitrous Oxide that she ordered that week (maybe she forgot to order) didn’t come in prompting Sylvia to remind Dana the importance of making sure items are ordered in a timely manner. Dana said the Nitrous Oxide was never empty again.

When she is not at work, Sylvia enjoys volunteering at her church for a local kid’s ministry on Monday nights. She helps in the logistics of food prep, serving, and clean up each week and feeds upwards of 300 kids each and every week. She is a great asset to the ministry and to the families of our community.
