Visiting a Patient

Having a support system of family and friends is an important part of the patient experience and healing process. Care partners and visitors are welcome at Southeast Health. Please observe these guidelines when visiting or accompanying a patient.

    • Visitation is open in most areas without limitations on the number of visitors a patient may have. The only exceptions will be in areas where patients may be immunocompromised or already at high-risk like the critical care setting or the Cancer Center.
    • Visitation hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. In addition to open visitation, most patients may have a care partner present at all times.
    • Space constraints may limit the number of individuals who may visit at one time, please rotate visitors in these instances.
    • When you arrive, signage will notify patients and visitors about current screening processes and provide direction on masking.
    • We are following the latest guidance regarding masking. When COVID-19 hospitalization rates are not high, wearing a mask is optional for patients, visitors, and staff. During high transmission times, everyone who is able, must wear mask while in our facilities.
    • A healthy visitor policy is in place. If you are sick or have symptoms of COVID-19, please don’t accompany, or visit patients. If you have tested positive or been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you need to wait at least 10 days before visiting a patient at Southeast Health facilities.
    • If you’re visiting someone with COVID-19, we’ll have you wear not only a mask, but also eye protection, a gown and gloves.
    • Please remember, our hospital is a healing environment. Aggressive or inappropriate behavior by patients or visitors will not be tolerated and you may be asked to leave.

Visitation guidelines are subject to change without notice.

Please contact your nurse when notary service is required. A notary public is a person authorized by the state of Alabama to officially witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements and administer oaths. A notary public uses an embossing tool to verify his or her presence at the time the documents were signed. Southeast Health’s Case Management team has notary publics who can assist patients at the hospital with a variety of legal documents relating to power-of-attorney, guardianship and healthcare directives.
